Trained, Tested, Type Rated
Course with endorsement of CL604/605 and includes the Challenger 650.
Initial training to become type rated is a comprehensive programme that qualifies a pilot to operate the aircraft safely and professionally. It combines ground school covering systems, performance, and procedures with Level D Full Flight Simulator sessions covering normal, abnormal, and emergency scenarios. The course concludes with the Type Rating Skills Test, after which the pilot operates the aircraft in commercial or private service.
Training That Works Around You
Our initial type rating course combines remote learning, flexible scheduling, and training tailored to your operation. From structured ground school through to your simulator skills test, every stage focuses on relevant content and efficient delivery, reducing time away from flying while maintaining the highest standards of proficiency and safety.

-
Duration
The course runs over 20 days at the training centre, comprising nine days of theoretical training, seven days of Full Flight Simulator training, and one day for the Type Rating Skills Test. Days off are built into the course length, and additional days off may be inserted for scheduling.
-
Training Topics
Limitations, Performance, Airplane General, Air Conditioning and Pressurization, Aural/Visual Warning System, Automatic Flight Control System, Auxiliary Power Unit, Communications, Electrical, Emergency Equipment, Fire Protection, Flight Controls, Flight Instruments, Fuel System, Hydraulic Power, Ice and Rain Protection, Landing Gear, Lighting, Navigation Systems, Pneumatic, Power Plant.
-
Ground school
9 days, 50 hours of classroom instruction covering all aircraft systems, with adequate time for self-study, concluding with a Written Knowledge Examination.
-
Simulator training
The AeronautX Challenger 604/605/650 initial type rating combines nine days of ground school with 32 hours of simulator training delivered on a Level D Full Flight Simulator, split equally between pilot flying and pilot monitoring, with brief LOFT scenarios incorporated. The course finishes with the Type Rating Skills Test. When the type rating is completed by a constituted crew training together, the Operator Proficiency Check can be conducted as part of the Skills Test; otherwise it is completed separately by the receiving operator.
Takeoff and landing training on the aircraft can be arranged through AeronautX under a separate booking, at additional cost.

Pre-requirements
The Challenger 604 /605 /650 is certified as a multi-pilot aircraft type. To start an initial type rating course, applicants need to meet the following entry requirements:
- Hold a valid Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot Licence (aeroplane) issued by EASA or the UK CAA
- Hold a valid Class 1 medical certificate issued by EASA or the UK CAA
- Hold, or have held, an Instrument Rating valid for multi engine aeroplanes
- Have passed the Airline Transport Pilot Licence theoretical knowledge examinations
- Hold a Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC) certificate, unless another recognised equivalence applies
- Have completed an Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training course, unless recent operator training and checking within the previous three years applies
- Have at least 70 hours of flying as Pilot in Command on aeroplanes
Included Training Courses
Area navigation and instrument approach procedures using required navigation performance criteria.
Operating with the head up display, projecting flight data into the pilot’s forward field of view.
Using infrared imaging to see the runway environment and terrain in reduced visibility conditions.
Operations in airspace where vertical separation is reduced from 2000ft to 1000ft above FL290.
Recognition and recovery training for aircraft upsets, unusual attitudes and envelope excursions.
Use of an inflatable vision unit that maintains a clear viewing area during cockpit smoke events.
Additional Courses Available
Approach and takeoff training in low visibility, qualifying crews for CAT II minima and LVTO down to 125m.
Approach qualification for high precision RNP procedures used at airports with complex terrain or curved paths.
Approach training for runways with paths above the standard glide angle, required at airports such as London City.
Operations in the North Atlantic High Level Airspace and oceanic crossings, covering routing and reporting procedures.
Qualification for long range routes that operate beyond standard diversion times from a suitable airport.
Crew training for designated airports with terrain or operational complexity requiring specific familiarisation.
FAQs
-
Is the training accepted by EASA and the UK CAA?
Yes. AeronautX is an Approved Training Organisation under EASA, with parallel UK CAA approval. We develop our training courses in house, built around competence based training and assessment principles, and the data behind every simulator we operate has been generated using up to date modelling techniques and modern simulator technology. Both the courseware and the simulator qualifications are approved directly by the authorities, with no dependency on a manufacturer relationship. Every certificate we issue is accepted by EASA, the UK CAA, and the operators we work with.
-
How do your simulators compare to those at competing training centres?
Every simulator at our Amsterdam centre is a Level D Full Flight Simulator, the highest qualification level granted by EASA and recognised by the UK CAA. The devices are qualified to the same standard as every other Level D simulator of the same type in Europe, with no higher tier of fidelity, motion, or visual system available anywhere in the industry. What you fly with us is the same and high standard you fly anywhere else.
