Same Type, New Variant
Difference training bridges a pilot from one variant of the Challenger 600 series to the next, covering the specific changes in systems, avionics, and procedures. It builds directly on the existing type rating, focusing on what is new rather than retraining the whole aircraft. Online ground school combines with Level D Full Flight Simulator sessions, and the course concludes once the pilot has demonstrated competence on the updated variant.

Duration
Difference training between the Challenger 604 and the 605 or 650 is delivered as a one day instructor led session, supported by interactive desktop learning. Familiarisation training between the 605 and the 650 is a minimum of six hours, with an optional datalink communications module of approximately 3.5 hours added where required.
-
Training Topics
The differences and familiarisation syllabus covers the Pro Line 21 avionics suite, including the Display Control Panel, Cursor Control Panel, and Integrated Flight Information System. It also covers the autothrottle system and the air conditioning and pressurisation changes, most notably the cabin temperature transfer arrangement. For crews moving from the 605 to the 650, the focus extends further to navigation and the Flight Management System (including the FMS 6200 capability and Airway to Airway intercepts), the flight instruments with Synthetic Vision, the SmartRunway and SmartLanding (RAAS) functions, LPV approach operations, datalink communications, XM graphical weather where installed, and half bank procedures during single engine takeoff.

Ground School
For the Challenger 604 to 605 or 650 path, the syllabus focuses on the Pro Line 21 avionics suite (including the Display Control Panel, Cursor Control Panel, and Integrated Flight Information System), the autothrottle system where installed, and the cabin systems updates (revised pressurisation control, cabin temperature transfer, and updated cabin heating). For the 605 to 650 familiarisation, the syllabus covers navigation, the Flight Management System (including FMS 6200 and Airway to Airway intercepts), flight instruments with Synthetic Vision, the SmartRunway and SmartLanding (RAAS) features, and LPV approach procedures specific to the 650, with an optional datalink communications module added where required.

Simulator Training
Differences simulator work is delivered on a Level D Full Flight Simulator with full fidelity of the Pro Line 21 cockpit, including the Flight Management System, Display Control Panel, Cursor Control Panel, Integrated Flight Information System, and the autothrottle controls where installed. As the highest qualification level granted to a flight simulator, the Level D device exceeds the minimum requirement for differences training and allows the syllabus to be consolidated hands on.
-
Pre-requirements
The pre-requirement is that the pilot is qualified and current on the variant being departed from.
-
Licensing skills test
Not applicable. Differences training between variants of the same type rating does not require a Type Rating Skills Test. A knowledge check is delivered as part of the differences course.
FAQs
-
Is the training accepted by EASA and the UK CAA?
Yes. AeronautX is an Approved Training Organisation under EASA, with parallel UK CAA approval. We develop our training courses in house, built around competence based training and assessment principles, and the data behind every simulator we operate has been generated using up to date modelling techniques and modern simulator technology. Both the courseware and the simulator qualifications are approved directly by the authorities, with no dependency on a manufacturer relationship. Every certificate we issue is accepted by EASA, the UK CAA, and the operators we work with.
-
How do your simulators compare to those at competing training centres?
Every simulator at our Amsterdam centre is a Level D Full Flight Simulator, the highest qualification level granted by EASA and recognised by the UK CAA. The devices are qualified to the same standard as every other Level D simulator of the same type in Europe, with no higher tier of fidelity, motion, or visual system available anywhere in the industry. What you fly with us is the same and high standard you fly anywhere else.
